Business Competencies

Important skills for identifying risks, managing resources, and helping organizations reach their goals through careful planning, smart decision-making, and regular performance reviews.

Strategic Perspective

This competency involves analyzing industry risks and opportunities, understanding strategic management processes, and providing insights for decision-making.  For this project, I worked with my team to evaluate Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, looking at its financial impact, regulatory challenges, and competitive effects. We analyzed how the deal would shape the gaming industry, influence cloud gaming, and raise antitrust concerns. This project helped me better understand how companies make strategic decisions and manage risks in major business deals.

Global & Industry Perspectives

This competency involves understanding how organizations integrate social responsibility, sustainability, and ethical governance into their operations. I participate in online webinars about corporate social responsibility and write reflections that analyze how businesses can incorporate these practices. This helps me better understand the role of ethical and sustainable management in organizations and how it impacts long-term success.

Process & Research Management

This competency involves gathering reliable information, analyzing data, and using resources effectively. I use online research tools and academic resources to help me find accurate and relevant information for projects and assignments. I also take the time to carefully review and analyze the data I collect to make sure it effectively supports my work. This helps me stay consistent with the quality of my work while also staying cost-efficient and meeting professional and academic standards.

Governance Perspective

This competency involves understanding the legal and regulatory environments affecting an organization, along with its social and environmental responsibilities. In my review of the SEC’s proposed climate-related disclosure rules, I evaluated how new requirements influence company governance, internal controls, and reporting processes. Using NVIDIA as a case study, I examined how its board oversees sustainability, maintains their code of conduct, and holds suppliers to social and environmental standards. I also looked at how the company provides areas for reporting concerns and ensures protections against retaliation. This analysis showed how governance structures can support compliance with climate disclosure standards while addressing broader ethical responsibilities.

Customer Perspective

This competency focuses on identifying and responding to the needs of clients and customers, while understanding how changes in the environment and marketplace affect the organization. In my sustainability project for the Palm Springs Air Museum, I addressed visitor expectations for modern, clean facilities and increasing community interest in environmental responsibility. By proposing upgrades to touchless faucets, low-flush toilets, and waterless urinals, the project both improves the visitor experience and supports the museum’s public image as a sustainable, community-minded organization.
